Frame Gallery's Fall Makers Market on Oct. 17, 2026 from 10 am to 2 pm

Frame Gallery Gifts and Art will host its Fall Makers Market on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 12569 Sollace M. Freeman Hwy in downtown Sewanee. Visitors can watch live demonstrations by local artists, shop for fall decor, and participate in two hands-on pumpkin craft activities.

Registration is required for each pumpkin activity, offered in two sessions: 10:30 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 2 p.m. No registration is needed to shop or watch the artist demonstrations. All Fall Makers Market activities will take place inside the Studio and under the outdoor canopy, rain or shine.

The activities include:

  • Doodle-O’-Lantern: Join artist Linda Kerlin, known for her “Extreme Doodling” workshop at Frame Gallery, to create pumpkin designs inspired by traditional fall themes or something abstract. This activity is appropriate for all ages; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants can bring their own pumpkin for $15 or buy one to decorate for $25.

  • Pumpkin Pansy Planters: Participants can create a pumpkin planter with owner Harriet Runkle. Frame Gallery will supply the pumpkins, soil, and pansies to make a fall planter to take home for $30 (or two for $45). To reduce waste, the gallery will send the discarded pumpkin pulp and seeds to the University Farm to feed their goats. Participants can also leave their pumpkin planters outdoors to feed local wildlife. This activity is appropriate for adults and children ages 12 and up.

  • Local artist demonstrations: Margaret Matens will be on-site making fall wreaths from natural materials, and Connie Keetle will be painting en plein air. Visitors can watch the artists at work, learn about their creative processes, and shop for fall wreaths and fine art paintings. Keetle’s art, alongside that of her mother, Page Schley, is currently on display in Frame Gallery’s “Side by Side: Page Schley and Connie Keetle, A Mother-Daughter Exhibition” through Oct. 31.

About Makers Market

Frame Gallery's new Makers Market is a celebration of creativity, community, and the joy of making things by hand. Like our workshops, it encourages exploration, connection, and the belief that art should be approachable, enjoyable, and free from the pressure of perfection.

Art is for Everyone

At its heart, the Frame Gallery’s Makers Market embraces the idea that art is for everyone. It’s about experimentation, play, discovery, and enjoying the process as much as the finished piece. Whether you're shopping, browsing, meeting local makers, or finding inspiration for your own projects, there’s something for every age and interest.

Sustainable Art in Action

One of the things that makes Makers Market activities sustainable is the use of leftover materials from the gallery's custom framing shop. Matboard, foam core, cardboard, and other framing remnants are transformed into imaginative works of art, demonstrating that art can flourish with everyday materials. It's a fun approach that encourages experimentation, resourcefulness, and the belief that art is about the joy of creating, not perfection. We continue to invent ways to use our scraps in art workshops and take-home art kits.

Looking Ahead

We hope to welcome additional makers throughout the summer to display and sell their handmade work. Artists working in any medium are encouraged to participate.

Stop by, shop small, meet local makers, and celebrate creativity with us!
